Burning incense, has a calming effect, specially when one burns an incense that fills the environment with a scent that you enjoy. It might be rose scented or lavender, everyone reacts differently. It is a sign, for many cultures around the world of sanctuary, a symbol, churches have used it to fill their sanctuary with an aroma that lifts people up during prayer. Yoga practitioners burn incense during their practice and meditation sessions. It's been the go to element for many spiritual seekers.
